The Undertaker and WrestleMania are synonymous together, it seems you can not have one without the other. The streak has become probably the second biggest thing in WWE history, only behind the WWE Title. Undertaker has had some bad matches at Mania, some good matches, and some great matches. Here are his ten very best, after the jump.
10.) Undertaker vs Triple H, WrestleMania 28
Yes it was the best Hell in a Cell match in years, but no this was not better then their first two Mania bouts. The match was almost filled with two much, with the Cell, the rematch, and Shawn Michaels all thrown in at once. A great match, but not as great as everyone plays it off to be.
9.) Undertaker vs Batista, WrestleMania 23, World Heavyweight Championship
One of Batista’s finest moments in a WWE ring. The Undertaker gave Batista that highlight match his career sorely lacked. These two had some great chemistry together, and it was nice to see Batista bring out his old heel ways during his long face run. Taker added yet another championship reign to his resume after this night in Detroit was through.
8.) Undertaker vs Randy Orton, WrestleMania 21
Batista’s old Evolution cohort Randy Orton also had his finest WrestleMania match against the deadman. This feud along with the Foley feud, made Orton legit. Before he was a young star with tremendous upside, after these two feuds he was a made man. Much like Batista, Orton had great chemistry with the Undertaker. This match didn’t steal the show, but it was still excellent.
7.) Undertaker vs Edge, WrestleMania 24, World Heavyweight Championship
Both of these men have had better matches at Mania, but this one is still awesome. Another match that was apart of a great feud as well. Edge finally got to main event WrestleMania, against the Undertaker no less. Another title vs streak match, obviously streak prevails.
6.) Undertaker vs Ric Flair, WrestleMania 18
This was Flair’s first great match since coming back to the WWE. He had been a shell of his former self at the end of WCW, and this match brought him back into form. Flair mentions in his book that Taker lead this whole match, which shows how great the Undertaker really is. The buildup to this one was memorable as well, with Undertaker taking out Arn Anderson and David Flair to try and get Ric to accept the match.
5.) Undertaker vs Kane, WrestleMania 14
Kane’s first WrestleMania match was his best. This was the very first time these two had locked horns and the buildup was stupendous. Undertaker refusing to fight his brother was masterfully done. The match itself was excellent as well. 3 tombstones finally put Kane down, but not before a hellish battle had taken place.
4.) Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels, WrestleMania 26
Perhaps the two very best WrestleMania performers of all time. I would always go to bat for this match when compared to the first one, mostly because I was there live. After watching them back many times, the first one is better. This match is still near perfect though. Shawn Michaels went out on a wonderful highlight and Undertaker added another great Mania match to his resume. The emotion in the building that night was something I will never forget.
3.) Undertaker vs Triple H, WrestleMania 27
Their second match at WrestleMania wasn’t quite as good as the first but better then the second. The Hell in a Cell match gets jocked all the time, yes it was a great match but this one was better. No Cell, no Shawn Michales, no “End of an Era” that didn’t really end anything. The cell match was bloated, this one was two guys going at it, you don’t need anything more. Easily the best match of this WrestleMania.
2.) Undertaker vs Triple H, WrestleMania 17
One of my favorite matches of all time. I have seen it more times then I can remember and it gets better with age. An all out brawl that went all around the Astro Dome. Even more impressive that this match sticks out on what was a stacked card. The best brawl of these two careers. Watch it, love it.
1.) Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels, WrestleMania 25
What else could it have been? One of the very best pro wrestling matches of all time. Two performers who were at the time past their prime, were still the best thing going that night. These two never had a bad match together. The perfect combination of wrestlers, that complimented each other in ways other men couldn’t. Excellence in a WWE ring.
Will the rumored CM Punk vs Undertaker match make this list next year?
