Top 33 WrestleMania Matches!

With WrestleMania 33 just around the corner, we reflect on the good times and great memories this event has given us, with the Top 33 WrestleMania matches!

Savage vs Steamboat – WrestleMania III

What is widely considered one of the best WrestleMania matches of all time. Savage vs Steamboat for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania III stole the show from the marquee match up.

Hulk Hogan vs Andre the Giant –  WrestleMania III

The match that packed the Silverdome. Hulk Hogan vs Andre the Giant for the WWE Championship. What this match lacks in technicality is made up for in sheer spectacle. History was made here.

Hulk Hogan vs Ultimate Warrior – WrestleMania VI

Hulk Hogan vs Ultimate Warrior at WrestleMania VI. Intercontinental Champion vs WWE Champion. Winner take all. The magnitude of the two top babyfaces in the company facing off was unheard of.

Randy Savage vs Ric Flair – WrestleMania VIII

One of the saving graces of WrestleMania VIII. Randy Savage vs Ric Flair for the WWE Championship. Polar opposites when it came to match preparation, but magic was made when they locked horns. A great build didn’t hurt either.

Owen Hart vs Bret Hart – WrestleMania X

The opening match of WrestleMania X. Brother vs Brother. Owen Hart vs Bret Hart. A great technical masterpiece that featured two of the very best in the company at the time.

Razor Ramon vs Shawn Michaels – WrestleMania X

The Ladder Match that all others would be judged against. Razor Ramon vs Shawn Michaels for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania X.

Bret Hart vs Shawn Michaels – WrestleMania XII

My favorite match of all time. The Iron Man match for the WWE Championship. WrestleMania XII. Shawn Michaels vs Bret Hart. It is hard to sell a PPV around one single 60 minute match, but it was seemingly made for these two.

Bret Hart vs Steve Austin – WrestleMania 13

The start of a movement. The double turn. The rise of Steve Austin. Austin vs Hart at WrestleMania 13 helped usher in the Attitude era, and launched WWE’s biggest star.

Stone Cold Steve Austin vs The Rock – WrestleMania XV

The first of three WrestleMania meetings between these two. Rock vs Austin at WrestleMania XV for the WWE Championship is a great snapshot of two of the all time greats, as well as the Attitude era in general.

Edge and Christian vs The Dudley Boyz vs The Hardy Boyz – WrestleMania 2000

Edge and Christian vs the Dudley Boyz vs the Hardy Boyz. Triangle Ladder match for the WWE Tag Team Championships at WrestleMania 2000. These three teams set the bar here and continued to raise it.

Shane McMahon vs Vince McMahon – WrestleMania X-Seven

Shane McMahon vs Vince McMahon at WrestleMania X-Seven. Father vs Son. This brutal street fight featured countless memorable moments, on a stacked PPV.

Edge and Christian vs The Dudley Boyz vs The Hardy Boyz – WrestleMania X-Seven

Back again. TLC 2. Edge and Christian vs the Dudley Boyz vs the Hardy Boyz. WWE Tag Team Championships on the line. WrestleMania X-Seven. These teams somehow found a way to raise the bar yet again with death defying bumps and exhilarating action.

The Undertaker vs Triple H – WrestleMania X-Seven

The first of three bouts between Triple H and the Undertaker at WrestleMania. This X-Seven meeting is arguably the best. The arena brawl and brutality would encapsulate the end of the Attitude era.

Stone Cold Steve Austin vs The Rock – WrestleMania X-Seven

The second meeting of Rock and Austin at WrestleMania. X-Seven was already a stacked PPV, but was capped off with an excellent main event between these two for the WWE Championship.

The Rock vs Hulk Hogan – WrestleMania X8

Icon vs Icon. Rock vs Hogan at WrestleMania X8. The crowd in Toronto made this into pure spectacle. Two of the biggest icons of their respective eras locking horns on the grandest stage.

Shawn Michaels vs Chris Jericho – WrestleMania XIX

Chris Jericho and Shawn Michaels would go on to have better matches but would never meet at WrestleMania again. This match at WrestleMania XIX would steal the show. Y2J vs his idol. A great build. Great story. Better match.

Hulk Hogan vs Vince McMahon – WrestleMania XIX

The two men who should most get credit for WrestleMania, squaring off at WrestleMania XIX, for the legacy of Hulkamania and WrestleMania. Hulk Hogan vs Vince McMahon is a bloody good time with master story telling.

The Rock vs Stone Cold Steve Austin – WrestleMania XIX

The final match in the Rock and Austin saga and easily my favorite. The backstory of Austin barely making it to the event makes it all the more intriguing. Austin would never wrestle again but he went out with class at WrestleMania XIX.

Brock Lesnar vs Kurt Angle – WrestleMania XIX

Kurt Angle vs Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania XIX. A clash of two of the all time great athletes in WWE history, on the biggest stage, for the biggest prize. A great match that almost turned infamous after a botched Shooting Star Press.

Eddie Guerrero vs Kurt Angle – WrestleMania XX

Eddie Guerrero and Kurt Angle had amazing chemistry together. Their WrestleMania XX bout for the WWE Championship shows that off. A master class in psychology and story telling.

Chris Benoit vs Triple H vs Shawn Michaels – WrestleMania XX

Sadly this amazing Triple Threat for the World Championship is lost in time. The wonderful story of two former friends and a third wheel underdog battling out at WrestleMania XX is an instant classic.

Kurt Angle vs Shawn Michaels – WrestleMania 21

Three years in a row Shawn Michaels stole the show at WrestleMania. This bout against Kurt Angle at WrestleMania 21 is one of my favorite matches of all time.

Edge vs Mick Foley – WrestleMania 22

Mick Foley had a storied career, but never had his WrestleMania moment. That was until WrestleMania 22. This brutal Hardcore match launched Edge into the main event and capped off Mick Foley’s career.

Shawn Michaels vs Ric Flair – WrestleMania XXIV

The story told throughout this match is on a level by itself. Shawn Michaels reluctance to end Ric Flair’s career is brilliantly displayed. This match at WrestleMania XXIV is neither of the men’s best, but the emotion and story telling is unmatched.

The Undertaker vs Edge – WrestleMania XXIV

A true WrestleMania main event. Edge vs Undertaker at WrestleMania XXIV for the World Championship is a great bout between two great rivals.

The Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels – WrestleMania XXV

What is widely considered as the greatest WWE match of all time. Shawn Michaels/Undertaker I at WrestleMania XXV.

The Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels – WrestleMania XXVI

Shawn Michaels/Undertaker II at WrestleMania XXVI. Most people consider this inferior to the original, but it is damn close. I was in attendance so maybe I am bias, but I prefer it over the original. Shawn Michaels’ last match, stealing the show like always.

The Undertaker vs Triple H – WrestleMania XXVII

Triple H and Undertaker’s 2nd Mania bout was featured at WrestleMania XXVII. A No Holds Barred match that stole the show on a pretty underwhelming card, but great nonetheless.

The Undertaker vs Triple H – WrestleMania XXVIII

The third and final Mania match between these two, this time inside Hell in a Cell. The two greatest Hell in a Cell competitors squaring off at WrestleMania XXVIII. The “End of an Era.”

The Rock vs John Cena – WrestleMania XXVIII

I feel this match would be remembered more favorably if it was truly “Once In A Lifetime.” A great match regardless of the rematch. Rock vs Cena at WrestleMania XXVIII lived up to the hype. It was again two of the biggest stars of their era’s facing off.

Daniel Bryan vs Triple H – WrestleMania XXX

Daniel Bryan vs Triple H at WrestleMania XXX should have been a nothing match. Bryan needed to win to get into the main event. A nice 10 minute bout would have been understandable, but these two beat the hell out of each other and told a great story. Shame we never got a follow up.

Brock Lesnar vs The Undertaker – WrestleMania XXX

This is not a great match. But the unforgettable moment of the streak being broken will live forever. Every wrestling fan knows exactly how they felt when this went down. Brock Lesnar vs Undertaker at WrestleMania XXX will live in infamy.

Daniel Bryan vs Batista vs Randy Orton – WrestleMania XXX

Daniel Bryan’s second match at WrestleMania XXX was no cake walk. The 2nd triple threat main event in Mania history lived up to the first. A brutal affair between three all time greats for the WWE Championship and a memorable WrestleMania finish.
